Reporting to the Patient Care Manager and according to department standards, functions as a member of the Patient Care Team to provide appropriate basic care to patients based on the ages of the patients served on the unit. This includes taking vital signs, assisting patients with activities of daily living, specimen collection, and observing patients for physical/emotional changes. Records pertinent information in patient charts and communicates with other Patient Care Team members to ensure continuity of care. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Previous experiece working as a Nursing Assistant The job incumbent is required to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide patient care appropriate to the age of the patients served on the unit. This requires that the incumbent demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development as well as the physical, emotional and psycho-social needs of the patient population served. Work requires ability to read, write and communicate effectively at a level generally acquired through completion of a high school education. Must be 17 years old to be considered for position. Must be CNA certified and have successfully completed any additional on unit training as needed. Work requires two to three weeks unit-specific orientation and on-the-job training to become familiar with work routines, location of equipment and supplies, and develop proficiencies in patient care tech duties. Work requires the interpersonal skills necessary to comfort patients, family members and/or significant others; and to communicate effectively with other patient care providers. Work requires analytical ability necessary to prioritize work load. Is trained in Crisis Prevention and Intervention Techniques and will show competence to perform these skills. Work requires an aptitude for therapeutic/professional interactions. Work requires basic problem solving skills to maintain safety for all involved. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Nursing Assistant work in a hospital setting.
