1896 Genuine Postage Stamps Postmarked on Original Envelopes in Peoria, Illinois For Sale

Ten of the same 2-cent carmine red George Washington stamp. All are still on their original 6 7/16 X 3 9/16 inch envelopes and contain an xxxx Chicago postmark and cancellation.
These 2-cent stamps were part of a series of different denominations that the Post Office released at same time. Somebody who owned compatible gummed stock paper, a printing press, a perforating machine, master plates and rich inks counterfeited them in great bulk and shipped them to a Canadian conspirator who re-sold the stamps back to Chicagoans at a discounted price promoted by an ad placed in the Chicago Tribune. Police recovered 70,000 unused counterfeit stamps at the homes or businesses of the perpetrators. After the "xxxx Chicago Counterfeiting Scam", the Post Office decided to print stamps on watermarked paper.
All envelopes and stamps are in Excellent condition. Cost equals $1 each (total $10) for items that are 119 years old. I also include a picture of a "clean" uncancelled stamp for illustrative purposes only merely so you can get a better close-up look of what the other ten cancelled stamps look like.
